Understanding and Managing Triggers Workshop

SATURDAY, JAN 17 / 1-2:30 PM

Do you sometimes overreact to small things then judge yourself harshly? Have others told you you’re “too sensitive” or “too much?” Do you worry that your reactions to triggers mean you’re crazy or emotionally unstable?

This workshop teaches you about triggers and how to manage them better. You’ll learn how to understand the origins of emotional sensitivity in relationships.

This workshop is great for anyone who worries about big emotional reactions, whether you express them outwardly in blow-ups or inwardly in thought spirals.

The workshop explores:

  • How biology and your childhood environment contribute to sensitivity to triggers;
  • How to become more aware of the warning signs of triggers;
  • What to do to respond more effectively when you’re triggered;
  • How to set better boundaries with people who frequently trigger you;
  • How to practice self-compassion for your responses

The workshop will combine teaching and discussion with hands-on practice. You’ll leave with a felt sense of what practices may work for you when you’re triggered. When you have tools to manage triggers, you feel more self-control and more stable in relationships.

FACILITATOR: Sheila Read, LCSW, Certified EMDR Therapist. Sheila is an experienced therapist who specializes in family dysfunction and treatment of trauma. She has a holistic approach to therapy and is trained in somatic approaches including yoga for behavioral health.
